The first anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake

Message from Narita City where Narita Airport, the gateway to Japan, is located

Kazunari Koizumi, Mayor of Narita City (Chiba Prefecture)

In 2011, Japan faced extraordinary challenges.
However, thanks to many heartfelt messages and support from around the world, we are keeping our chin up today. As we wanted to let the world know about it, we created a video with the world class artists expressing Japan’s liveliness with a song and other performances. It is titled “LipDub in JAPAN~filmed at NARITA” and shared on YouTube.
Please take a look at it and see that Japan is a wonderful place as ever.
Narita City, as a contact point between other countries and Japan, welcomes you wholeheartedly.

Message from Matsushima, one of Japan’s three most scenic spots in the inshore area of Tohoku which is affected by the tsunami

Matsushima Tourist Association Keiji Fukui, Secretary General (Miyagi Prefecture)

Because of the Great Earthquake, one of Japan’s three most scenic spots Matsushima was devastated by the worst tsunami we have ever experienced. But since the affected area was rather small, we worked hard towards the quickest possible recovery. And today we have come to the point where we can lead the recovery in tourism in the Tohoku region as one of the most famous tourist attractions in Japan.
Your support reached us immediately after the disaster and that has given us much power for the quick recovery.
Matsushima is doing fine! Please come to Matsushima, one of Japan’s three most scenic spots. We are waiting for you.

Miyagi Goodwill Guide Club (Miyagi Prefecture)

Miyagi Prefecture is blessed with nature and delicious food. You can enjoy skiing even in April in Zao. Fishes caught in Miyagi is very good and naturally we have great sushi. We have picked the first seaweeds after the disaster. They were soft and tastier than usual years.
The cherry blossoms will be in full bloom across the prefecture from mid-April. Please come to Miyagi Prefecture. We express our heartfelt thanks to your support we have received from all over the world. Although it is not possible for us to return the favor directly, we will wholeheartedly guide the foreign tourists coming to Miyagi to show our gratitude.
