The “Tottori Sakyu Illusion”, a unique collaboration of light and sand

About 2 and a half hours by train from Osaka, the vast Tottori Sand Dunes stretch out for 2.4 km (approx. 1.5 miles) from north to south and 16 km (approx.10 miles) from east to west along the Sea of Japan in Tottori Prefecture. The Tottori Sand Dunes transform just 1 month a year for “Tottori Sakyu Illusion”, an event held from the end of November.

The highlights of the Tottori Sakyu Illusion include the illuminations made with 300,000 light bulbs, sand sculptures brightly lit up, and a number of images projected onto the vast sand dunes. The world of light suddenly appearing in the darkness of the sand dunes is magical and visitors become so immersed they forget the passing of time. For 2014, visitors can see countless numbers of stars falling down onto the sand dunes and lights moving in time to music under the concept of “the magical world of nature and lights and the amusement park of lights”. How about a journey to a world of illusion, an experience beyond the regular city illuminations?
