You can enjoy spring skiing up until the beginning May

Were you thinking that you can only ski in Winter in Japan? There are ski resorts that are open until early May in Hokkaido, the Tohoku region and even in Nagano, which is easily accessible from Tokyo. Take note however, as some ski resorts are only open on weekends and holidays.

Access: Take a local bus from JR Numata Station to “Kamata” bus stop (1 hour), change buses and get off at “Marunuma Kogen Ski-Jo” bus stop. (25 min)

Access: 1 hour and 30 min by the Shiga Kogen Express Bus from JR Nagano Station, or 1 hour by a local bus from JR Yudanaka Station. Get off at “Ichinose Ski-Jo” bus stop.

Another fun activity in this season is visiting the “Snow Wall”. The massive amount of snow that has piled up during the Winter is removed from part of the road and you can walk along a path enclosed by walls of snow.

Access: Take a local bus from Shin-Shimashima Station on the Matsumoto Dentetsu line, change to the Haruyama Bus at “Norikura Kogen Kanko Center-Mae” bus stop and get off at either “Kuraigahara Sanso-Mae” bus stop or, from late May, at “Daisekkei Katano Koyaguchi” bus stop.

In addition to the famous cherry blossoms, you can also enjoy the beauty of Japanese iris, rape blossoms and azalea in Spring. There are many spots famous for these flowers across Japan and we will introduce some of the ones that we think you should visit.
