Out of the Sweets Factory and Onto a Miniature Railway – Shiroi Koibito Park
Two langue de chat-style wafers welded together, concealing a layer of white chocolate cream inside. If you’ve ever bitten into Hokkaido brand Ishiya’s famed Shiroi Koibito cookie, you’ll understand why it’s one of of the prefecture’s most popular souvenir sweets. Want to see where these incredibly tasty treats are made? Head to Shiroi Koibito Park in Sapporo’s Nishi Ward. The assembly line is open!
Watch all the action from an upper-level window, from baking, to the sandwiching process, to cooling and packaging.
There are several sugary stops along the tour. You’ll be given a candy-making demonstration in the “Candy Lab.” Next, the “Choco Time Tunnel” transports you to 19th century British chocolate making through an incredibly detailed diorama. Then there’s the “Chocolate Cup Collection,” exhibiting authentic containers used to drink liquid chocolate by aristocrats until the 1700s!
Outside, pass the time in charming fashion on the miniature railway and in the luxurious rose garden (fully bloomed in late June). Shiroi Koibito Park isn’t only for friends and families with kids, but couples too.
