Shiga Kogen-Yokoteyama Ski Resort is located at the highest altitude in Japan. The popular ski site is well known for its excellent snow quality. The panoramic view seen from the peak is absolutely fabulous! Did you know you can enjoy the superb view even if you are not a skier? Go to Yokoteyama Sancho Hutte, which stands as high as 2307 m (7568 ft) above sea level, commanding the Northern Japan Alps and Mount Fuji. You can enjoy watching a 360-degree landscape with cloud sea or sunset while having a meal.
Kumonoueno Panyasan is a bakery within the facilities, and is the bakery located at the highest elevation in Japan. Don’t miss the very popular handmade bread, which sells out quickly.
The lodging house accepts guests throughout the season.
Try an interesting way to get to Hutte
Guests can use Yokoteyama Skylator, Sky Lift, and Shibutoge Romance Lift to reach the summit of Mount Yokoteyama in summer from late May to October (planned). In winter from December to May (planned), the facility staff will give you a lift with a snowmobile.

[Getting There] Take Nagano Line at JR Nagano Station. Take Nagaden Bus and get off at Shiga Kogen Hasuike. If you use Skylator and a summer-time lift, go to Nozoki by Nagaden Bus (40 minutes). If you only use a summer-time lift, go to Shibutoge by Nagaden Bus (50 minutes). If you take a snowmobile, go to Hisaka by Nagaden Bus.

Quick access to a magnificent snow view after disembarking from the Shinkansen
Niigata is one of Japan’s leading rice producing areas. Yuzawa Kogen Ski Resort has good access from the hot spring resort town in front of Echigo Yuzawa Station, the nearest station. Take a ropeway to go straight to a superb world of snow. The world’s largest ropeway car can carry up to 166 people. It arrives at the highland with an altitude of 1000 m (3280 ft) in seven minutes. Many tourists who do not ski also use the ropeway. Specialties are the whirling powder snow and superb view.
Tourists can play at Snow Land, an amusement park full of snow activities. – There are sofas and tables on the snow. Snow Terrace allows customers to enjoy crepes and the specialty hot chocolate while enjoying the wonderful view.
Enjoy a hot spring and the delights available near the station as well
Echigo Yuzawa is a popular destination for skiers and hot spring goers as an accessible snowy region: it takes 70 minutes from Tokyo by Joetsu Shinkansen. Visitors also come for nice food and beverages of the region blessed with water of melted snow.
Ponshukan Sake and Rice Museum Echigo Yuzawa is the in-station museum themed on the local sake of Niigata. Visitors can try leading sake brands of the prefecture and enjoy a sake bath within the museum. It is a nice place to get souvenirs: many different specialties are available.
Snow Country Tourism, the website of Echigo Yuzawa, introduces lots of information that help you discover the charms of the snowy region anew, such as information about events, accommodation, food, and shopping places.

Watch fireworks and torch ski show on ski slopes
Naeba is a popular place for enjoying spectacular snow activities and events with good access. Many hotels stand in front of the ski courses. Many tourists other than skiers visit the resort to enjoy various events in addition to winter resort activities.
You can enjoy viewing the white ski slopes and bright firework lighting night sky. The event takes place 34 times a year. March 3 (Sat.), 6 (Tue.), 10 (Sat.), 13 (Tue.), 17 (Sat.), 24 (Sat.), and 31 (Sat.).
On Saturday, March 17, about 2000 fireworks will be launched. A torch ski show will be held at night. The first 50 guests can join the show performers. *Subject to a participation fee.

A wide variety of snow activities
Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort has ski courses for intermediate and advanced skiers together with the character of a hot spring town. Today, this popular resort offers activities other than skiing.
Zip Skyride is the activity of sliding down rapidly from a high place to a lower place with a difference in altitude of 122 m (400 ft). The distance is the longest in Japan at 652 m. Speeds can reach up to about 70 Km (43.4 miles)/hour.
Join a snow field excursion tour. A snowmobile can carry up to 16 passengers. If you are lucky, you can see wildlife in the forests, such as Japanese serows, rabbits or hares.
There are two courses for snowshoeing: a slow walk amidst the vast nature of Nozawa Onsen, and beech forest walking.
Enjoy fireworks and public baths
Nozawa Onsen Fire Festival takes place at Hikage Slope on March 10, 2018. Fireworks will be set off high above the snow fields. There are 13 public baths based on natural hot spring water, and they are called “Sotoyu” in the hot spring town of Nozawa Onsen. Sotoyu hopping is a popular activity following skiing and other snow activities.
